Today is the last blog post of the whole module. Today we did nothing much, basically the time is used to improve and clean up any mistakes for our portfolio part before we hand in the day after.

What I learnt in this EIR module?
In fact, I learnt quite a lot on researching and different kinds of websites. There are two lessons that I think is the most important lessons throughout the whole module. Firstly, is learning of the search facilities. There are different beta engines that exist, however I did not use before until I attended this module. There are so much functions within a particular search engines that can help me out in my future research. I get to explore and understands more about their functions. Amazingly, doing research does not only apply a word or two in the search engine but there is another technique like the search query that we can use. It narrows the search down to what we want. Google Scholar was rather effective for us students, since we are suppose to find reliable source. From here, I can get accurate information which I would not need to spend too much time searching for the most appropriate one.

Second lesson will be the evaluating of the website. Indeed, there are multiple factors to consider while getting information from the website. Most importantly is that the website is reliable. Surely, no one would want to get a false information. With this factors, I applied it into doing the class WIKI. Every website I go to, the first thing to do is to check out the coverage and reliability. Through this lesson, I am more careful and aware to website that I had visited.

Overall, the whole EIR journey was very interesting. I get to learn a lot about researching and I even found one website, About.com, that most information I can get from. Furthermore, the website is part of the New York Times Company. I am glad that I came across this websites that will be useful for my future search. I even get to try out a "WIKI" where everyone cooperates and gather information from anywhere through the internet and compile together. It was a pretty good experience. Through this module, I get to learn about blogging. It was my first time owning a blog, I remembered I can spend hours to wonder how to apply a blogskin and upload a post and also upload images. Maybe blog is not my type afterall haha.. Through EIR, I learnt a lot about internet.

Let's talk about the WIKI, that the class had been doing during the weekend. The topic the class received was "Implications of assuming another person's identity on the internet". It seems to be a good thing that the class had organise different tasks to do beforehand. It actually allows the class members to do and focus on their part. Frankly saying, the topic we were given was pretty tough. Personally, it took me quite a while to understand. With the help of the facilitors, I managed to understand quite a bit.

Everyone holds different responsibilities, and most importantly, within the group we have to help with each other. I am involved in the group that take charge of the Types and Techniques. It was not very easy, because during the research there are actually things that we need to consider before we can write down the information. We also must be careful of the sources that we references from. We need to check the reliability of the resources and the coverage. These are basically the main factors that we need to check out on. Not only getting the content area done, there are also case studies and videos that we had included in the WIKI. Thanks to everyone, that we made the WIKI a good work. Haha~

Today we went through the topic about youtube, going through the different factors such as the positive and negative points and the future of youtube. Youtube itself is already popular. Probably if you were to ask 10 people about which website produce the most videos or are popular with the videos uploaded, they would probably all say YOUTUBE. It is in everyone's mind. Amazingly through this exercise I learnt more about it, and indeed youtube still can move on for a very long time. It acts as a platform for people to put up their videos and view it.

Personally, if youtube disappeared to somewhere in future, I would not really go crazy and cry or die over it. There are still other websites that produce videos, like veoh.com, crunchyroll.com and more. As a web surfer, I do not really go into youtube every now and then and get crazy over it. I still can survive without youtube. However, if that day were to happen, I probably will at most feels a little uncomfortable because I have one less place to watch my entertainments and do my research on.

Time sure pass real fast, and today is day nine already. The class was briefed with the topic that we are supposed to do in www.eir-rawkz.wetpaint.com . Within the class, a few of the classmates volunteer to become the facilitors to guide us through what to do for the topic. People are grouped and alocated with different sections to do so that there won't be confusion or so. It is pretty good idea to split the task, otherwise this might cause lacking of information in some parts of the topic. I took the Types and Methods section, grouped along with 4 other classmates.

The remaining time left in the class, I was left doing some research on finding the useful links to contribute to the content that my group is doing. There are quite a lot of information on Identity theft and there are some information that I did not came across before. Pretty interesting indeed. I referred to the website that I used for my individual assignment, About.com . Once again, I found some useful information from there. I did not expect that I can really find it there though, but it became useful because there are also articles there as well to help out in researching.

Back to researching for information.. tata..

There aren't anything much today. A short lecture on the portfolio part 2. Did part of the evaluation yesterday and today dealing the printscreens and editing some of the content in it. The website I used to evaluate on is About.com . I realised this website is useful for its information and forums. You can find almost anything in it. The website provides you the content, resources like videos and articles are shown as well. It is definitely useful for researching on a particular topic using it.

Continuing with evalutions...

Today is the blogging about my dream holiday. I have always wanted to go to one place and that is none other than Japan. I wished that my first oversea trip will be there. Japan is famous to everyone where it popular for its entertainments like the famous bands Kinki kids, News and more, they are all under Johnny's entertainment. The scenery there are nice as well, especially during the period where you can witness those sakura. The scene is one of the main reasons attracted me to go. It just makes you feel so comfortable and relax when you just see the leaves falling. Gosh.. furthermore, the food is definitely a must try. Of course, the whole trip will ended up in burning my pockets into big holes. But yea, Japan the place I want to go.

Before going overseas, there is a need to find out and learn more about the particular place that we are going. For example, learning the currency, the places, the affordable food, the transport and furthermore. I looked upon this website to check out what I can learn about Japan, http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng/

The evaluation criteria I used for the website is basically the coverage (like the special attractions and best few destinations) . Next is the information whether it is the latest (up-to-date), so that I will know what is there in Japan at the moment. In addition, the accuracy of the information as well. I would not want to get unreliable information if I am travelling around and get lost somewhere. Lastly, the presentation and arrangement of the website, this is to keep me stay in the website to continue my interest in exploring. If the layout is screw up, I would not want to see any further.

Invisible web is effective to a certain extend. Firstly, invisible web is most likely unable to access from home except for places like schools where ID and passwords are required. It brings about inconvenient, as we will need to spend time to do the research in school rather than at home. In this area, by using search engines , meta search engine and subject directories will be useful as it helps to save time for us.

Second point is whereby, invisible webs provides reliable sources and updated information that are useful to our research. Unlike the other search engines, it both contains reliable and unreliable sources that might affect in our overall research results. It will also take up some of our time to figure out the reliability of the sources as well.

Third point, it helps to narrow down the our search which helps us a lot. It will immediately get what we are looking for.

Internet is all about fast and easy after all. Such databases speed up the process of researching even faster.

It will definitely depends if I were to do my using invisible web for my diploma. I will still rely on the other search engines because it is easy for me to access from home or school, almost everywhere as long as there is internet connection. However, for invisible web I will need to get myself to stay in school to do the research. Staying in school is not really my option because of the distractions around. Unless there are information that I have difficulties in finding, I will spend my time in school to access to the invisible web to do my research. Other than that, I would probably still use the other search engines to help me out. These search engines are also capable of finding the information I needed, it allows me to compare different information together as well.

Today, I had taken the test and had a small debate in class. For the test, the questions that I got wrong are mostly my carelessness and forgetfulness. The debate in class was kind of interesting. Talkingcock.com, to me is definitely a place for entertainment and a place for people to express their own point of view (POV). However, there are some users who became overboard with what they are talking about, ended up the topic seems to be quite insultful.

I spent a whole night re-editing my portfolio, at least to show a rather prepared portfolio to Faridah. Yeap.. today (30th April 2009) was the review of the portfolio draft 1. I received quite a few feedbacks and comments from Faridah. It did helps a lot. Indeed there were some minor and major mistake that need to ammend. Luckly, there is the 4 days breaks which I can edit the portfolio.

I did some planning on what to do next. Firstly, to ammend all the mistakes in the portfolio and improve it even further. There is a need to make the portfolio more clearer in the content. Secondly, do some further research that probably might help out in the portfolio. Lastly to end off with all the clear citation/bibliography.

Yap.. that's basically all..
